Courtenay was retained in 2006 by three prominent Calgary ophthalmologists, to acquire land and head the development of a new leading-edge ophthalmology center.  In June 2010, Courtenay opened the new Southern Alberta Eye Center, providing the leading edge in ophthalmic services for southern Alberta, as well as educational services to future ophthalmologists.  The 45,000 sq ft building houses 4 state-of-the-art operating theaters, sophisticated medical equipment and building management systems, an efficient education facility, as well as modern offices serving patients in all aspects of eye diseases and procedures.
